I'm always looking for inspiration. Most of the time my inspiration comes directly through my clients. You see I believe that I have the best clients in the world. Am I biased? I don't think so. I wholeheartedly believe each and every one of them were sent to me from the Big Man upstairs. They are all AMAZING people who inspire me to be a better trainer, professional, and most importantly person. This is my actual belief and if you think I'm kidding you're more than welcome to message me.
Anyways, speaking of inspiration...What is up with Christie Brinkley? For those of you who don't know who she is (myself included before a google search), Christie was on the cover of three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues from 1979-1981 and was the face of Cover Girl (the cosmetics brand that also required a google search from yours truly) for twenty five years. Our society paints a picture that only people that look like her get attention because she looks a certain way. Let me sound off here, she looks and feels the way she does because she has a POSITIVE attitude. People will always try to take down those who pose a threat. Anyone who is happy and healthy poses a threat to anyone who is unhappy and unhealthy. For whatever reason this is how things seem to be right now in society and I've personally had enough of it. Bottom line, positive is the way to go!
61 on the left and 27 on the right. |
Recently, Christie released pictures of her trip from her trip from Turks and Caicos in which she showed off what appears to be a healthy and fit figure. This normally wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact the she is 61 and doesn't appear to aged at all since 1981 (when she was 27!) There have been mixed reviews so I thought I would clear things up. The question that immediately popped into my head is: "I wonder what her fitness and nutrition philosophies are?" Actually, that was my second or third question. My first question was "Does she have a boyfriend?!" If not than....just kidding. Anyways, I decided to do a little research and find out if she found the fountain of youth. Turns out that is not the case. Actually, according to Christie it breaks down into five simple habits. Here you have it: 5 habits to age like Christie Brinkley.
1. Emphasize Feeling Great
Rather than placing pressure on herself to look a certain way, Christie focuses on methods that help her feel great. She encourages smiling more, meditating, prayer. Finding time to give to herself is important. She says, "When you feel great you emanate a certain energy that translates as beautiful." The number one thing Christie is interested in is feeling good.
2. Embrace a Positive Attitude
In my opinion this is the most important factor. Why is a positive attitude important? Our attitude is a choice we decide how we approach ever situation in life. There are those who will claim that is obvious that someone who is beautiful and on the cover of a magazines will have a positive attitude. This is absolutely not true. People with money, fame, looks, etc. are almost always on the cover of magazines. You are well aware that these things do not carry always carry with them a positive attitude and they sure as heck cannot guarantee us happiness. Developing an "attitude for gratitude" changes people's lives. Surrounding yourself with positive influences creates enthusiasm and inspires every cell in your body to respond in a electrifying manner, such as slowing your rate of physical degradation (or aging). Our dignity, humility, and generosity will reward us with a positive attitude which is indispensable. Christie encourages us to strive our best for a positive attitude. She says one of the best ways to build a positive attitude is to be generous.
3. Exfoliation
Christie swears by this. She says that the daily exfoliation gives her that rapid cell turnover and keeps her skin glowing and looking so great. If you don't have an exfolaitor, you can find great one by clicking here.
4. Know What Goes Into Your Body
I'm talking about nutrition here. The more informed you are about what you eat the easier it is going to be to keep a healthy diet. Temptations go away when we're more educated on the subject. Christie says, "It's beyond willpower at that point, it's become a desire to do something good for yourself."
She suggests adding as much color into your diet. Click here to find were the colorful foods are in December. Here is an example of what Christie eats throughout the day:
Breakfast: Christie states that she is rushed most mornings, so this is her go-to meal. It tastes like a "juicy muffin."
- raw oatmeal
- handful of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and walnuts
- leafy greens
- purple herbs
- lentils
- chopped tomatoes
- garbanzo beans
- handful of nuts and seeds
- sometimes avocado*
- Fiji apple
- scoop of peanut butter
- whole wheat pasta
- olive oil
- vegetables (broccali, beans, carrots)
- fish
5. Exercise
Do what you enjoy and you'll always stay active. Here's the thing, we all innately like to exercise (ie. participate in some form of physical activity). Whether it's hiking, surfing, mountain biking, or cross fit; all of us enjoy physically moving our bodies. Christie focuses on exercises she enjoys such as yoga, bicycling, paddle boarding, and skiing.
NOTICE, the first two habits have absolutely nothing to do with diet or exercise. This is because we are already beautiful. Exercising like a professional athlete, eating a clean, non-GMO, hormone free diet, and all the best skincare lines in the world are not going to make you beautiful. That is something only you can do by finding it within yourself to love who you are. There's only one YOU. No one talks like you, thinks like you, or dreams like you. Do what you love and love who you are and your beauty will be radiant everywhere you go.
